Basil Wasyl Kaczmarczyk was born on January 14, 1917 to John Kaczmarczyk and Mary Keleczawa. He was the youngest of 7 children. His siblings were Julia, Michael, Olga, Vladimir, Isabella, and Jaroslawa. Before enlisting in the war, Kaczmarzyk lived with his family at 1125 East Pine Street, Mahanoy City and did not ever get married. The 1930 census record is shown below with Kaczmarczyk and his family in the top rows.
Enlistment
The United States joined World War II in 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor pictured in this newspaper. Kaczmarzyk was 24. He joined the army about three months later.
This is the draft card of Kaczmarczyk. He enlisted in the army on March 26, 1942 at age 25 in Wilkes-Barre Township.
